When In Rome
by Harlie K. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 08/08/2023 08:17:21

A very neatly written & engaging story. I read it in one sitting & have since picked up the other stories written by the author. I do hope the series eventually continues as I am intrigued by what may happen to the brothers.

very useful, thank you for making these, personally would have preferred individual cards for each power but that's merely a nitpick

Prism of Focus
by Ricardo A. J. P. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 08/06/2023 14:20:10

Not only is this a great, incredibly well-written book, if fixes one of the biggest holes the Mage: The Ascension RPG has had since its first edition: Practices.

With this, we finally get systems that mesh together Rotes, Reality Zones, Sanctums and the use of Practices in all of them.

Its also an excellent tool for players, giving them a cohesive toolbox to work with. I would recommend adding the systems in this book to any Storyteller campaign.

In sum, it meshes the ephemeral ideas of Mage with workable systems, which almost sounds like a feat of Magic by itself!

Bloody but Unbowed V5
by LUKE C. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/31/2023 09:44:56

It's a fairly good set up for a one shot however the Story Teller should have been given at least soem options on how to flesh the story out rather than mere skeletons. Of course, there are only so many options beforoe you make it linear however the general plot still is 'capture culprit' deliver in front of Prince and see what happens.

Second Sight: Third Eye
by Joshua S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/27/2023 16:35:45

This is to Chronicles of Darkness what the Sorcerer books are to World of Darkness.

The first chapter of this book gives a large number of supernatural merits and special options for activating supernatural merits. This provides a plethora of options to mortal characters, from talking to animals to ripping out people's souls and storing them in jars. I think supernatural merits are a wonderful way to allow some oddness into the various gamelines while ensuring that the splats don't get too powerful with abilities they were never expected to have.

The second chapter dives into psychics and thaumaturges. Both of these are merit templates that feel very different from one another despite serving a primary purpose of supporting other supernatural merits. If you want a vodoun or a wiccan to have actual working magic, and you don't want to have to dive into Mage then this book has your back. Both psychic and thaumaturge have their own bundle of supernatural merits to support your other merits, or to just let you do other awesome things.

The third chapter is centered around things that should not be (aka. Cthulhu and friends). There are rules for creating things that should not be, which are ephemeral beings but with some extra powerful options (ie. influence: matter). There's also rules for using the horror system to create manifested horrors. And what would beings like that be without cultists, who have special merits and blasphemous rites. The chapter ends with a couple example things that should not be and one of their cults.

Overall if you like supernatural merits this book is a must have, if you want magic in your world and don't want to have every spell slinger be a mage, this book is a must have.

Borrowed Power
by Joshua S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/27/2023 16:15:57

I am a sucker for the minor supernatural merit templates, I love the idea of them and I love using them in games, and this book has 3.

The first of them is channelers, they are people who channel the power of a certain type of ephemeral being of your choice. You can wield their influence and their numina. It's neat, but it's done in other books as well, if slightly different.

The second of the templates is Sanguiomancers, mortals who can wield supernatural merits and power them with viate. They're kind of like ghouls with merits instead of disciplines. They're an interesting idea and can make a good twist on a vampire's favored servant, especially a vampire in the Circle of the Crone. If you're not running vampire, they're a bit more niche, though the book does have rules for using them without the kindred.

The last of the templates is my favorite, the expanded and upgraded Skin Thief. Skin Thieves steal other forms by skinning and wearing the skin of the form they want. This can even include a spirit's skin, which can in turn grant you numina and influence. There's even an option to simply bind the creature whose form you wish to wear, rather than killing it. Over all these are top notch and make wonderful and creepy antagonists (or protagonists).

In closing I really like this book, and I consider it a really good buy at the price, but I can't give it 5 stars because ther first two templates just don't quite get there for me.

Ephemeral Influence
by Joshua S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/27/2023 16:04:02

This product is almost a necessity for any Chronicles game that wishes to use ephemeral entities (mainly spirits, but the information on influence can help with other entities). Beyond giving a large example of various influences, this book gives options for the various splats to interact with ephemeral entities, mortals gain a merit, Servitude, vampires gain a discipline, Blood Tenebrous (which is awesome), the Uratha get both a Rite and a Shadow Gift, and mages get a spell with several different variations. Over all I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Mage The Ascension Tarot
by Greg F. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/24/2023 17:30:52

As of July 2023, when I purchased this "Mage the Ascension" tarot deck, the following issues lead to me giving a one star review:

  1. The only thing about this product that has a Mage the Ascension theme is the tuck box that holds the cards.
  2. There is nothing about the cards themselves that says "Mage the Ascension" - literally nothing. This is basically some random tarot deck put into a Mage tuck box.
  3. Even some of the card names don't matchup to Mage the Ascension. The iconinc tarot card shown on the cover of most versions of the core rules is "The Mage", featuring Dante (one of the early iconic characters in Mage fiction). Yet the corresponding card in this deck is "Magus"
  4. Related to #3 above, the original card art for "The Mage" with Dante is on the back of the tuck box.
  5. For some cards, the color of the card name is very close to the color of the card background, making oit hard to tell what card it is.
  6. And to add insult to injury, the tarot deck came with two small pieces of paoer, one for the tuck box and one for the deck of cards. Each piece of paper has a picture of the product, and for the tarot desk it shows a card from the original set.

I would have been better off going to a local Half Price Book store or an atrology store, find a tarot deck I liked, and then printed my favorite Mage art at a size that would let me put Mage art on the card box, and I would have had a less expensive and much better tarot deck for Mage the Ascension.

At one time this product may have been closer to the original Mage the Ascension deck (in fact it sounds like that may have been the case a few years ago, based on some of the other, older reviews), but that is no longer the case.

If I could give this zero stars I would. Avoid this product, it is a waste of your money if you want a Mage the Ascension tarot deck.

Thoughts and Prayers (A Deviant: The Renegades Novella)
by Ryan F. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/20/2023 09:55:55

Bek Andrew Evans has quite a mastery with words and sets a chilling and thrilling recounting of the main character's troubled past. The illustrations are plentiful and gorgeously macabre, perfectly fitting the tone of the read. definitely looking forward to more of this author's works.

Chronicle of the Blood Moon [BUNDLE]
by Victor L. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/17/2023 10:50:22

I bought this after previewing the Tomb of Alexander. This was a great Chronicle to start a group off in and I was very excited to introduce my players to France outside of Paris. The build up of the story is very intriguing and the characters and venues offered can add depth to any chronicle. The story gives such a great outline and setting, I found it very easy to incorporate into my world and setting. There are plenty of openings to fit in your own plots and hooks as needed to extend anything you need. For those forever Storytellers that sometimes just need a small break from the love/hate relationship of the creation process, I recommend this bundle. It was well worth the money just for the characters and setting information. The story is a great one though I would recommend playing it from a Camarilla perspective, for ease of use. (My Characters rant through it as independents with a little work and some bending, it worked beautifuly.) All in all I highly recommend this entire bundle for both new and experienced storytellers. Crains le Soleil couchant!

Dark Eras: Requiem for Rome 2nd Edition
by Victor P. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/10/2023 05:54:26

As always none more dark always make me happy :) ... The only problem I had with this book, and I highlight this is kind of personnal preference, probably will have people who will love it. Is the different skills on Dark Eras. I see where they come from with that, but at same time, I think is something which would make harder to make compatible with other, and don't have a obvious counterpart. That said, that's easily ignorable if you want, and the book is aweasome as always. I specially like it the Bali and new blood sorcery rules, but a part of me, would like a alternate system (maybe in another book) of Blood Sorcery Book, for a system more like of Mage the Awakening, for now I will probably use the Blood Sorcery: Rites of Damnation book (which is a great book btw), or this system, depending on the circustances.

In short, I really liked this book, and do recommend to anyone who like Vampire the Requiem. And I'm looking forward for Covenants books :)

Mage 20th Character sheets with a artistic flare
by Terry R. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/04/2023 20:19:19

This product while visually fine is a blend of wrong choices largely taken from simply using what I think is a Revised cahracters heet. The logo is the Revised logo rather than the M20, the list of Abilities aren't those from M20 for instance including Larceny and omitting Research and Esoterica. Magick is spelled "Magic" and the list of Backrounds omits those from M20.

These are not for M20 and I don't want a player to grab them thinking it'll work in an M20 game without modification.

It took me less than a week to devour the 150+ pages of this awesome book. Love it!
