ADD TO WISHLIST >

Written by Luke Crane, David Peterson; illustrated by David Petersen.

320 pages; full color

For Mouse Guard fans who own the original Mouse Guard Roleplaying Game Box Set, or anyone who'd like to enlist in the Mouse Guard for the first time, the second edition of the rule book is available separately as a PDF with all-new art from David Petersen.

Mouse Guard RPG 2nd Edition contains everything players need to know about the world of the Guard, including rules for forming patrols and leading missions into the beleaguered territories.

This pdf appears to be for the first printing of the books, which has a fair amount of errata (mainly for some examples which were still based on 1st ed rules). A lot of errata was fixed for the 2nd printing and it would useful to have the updated version available here - hopefully with some pdf specific issues fixed as well (low DPI for some artwork, lack of bookmarks etc)

I have to concur with other users that the PDF, considering it was created on a Macintosh iMac 3.2 Ghz Intel Core i5 using Adobe Creative Suite specifically, InDesign CS 5. it should have been trivial to make a table of contents and make the created index actually hyperlinked.

I have made my own Table of Contents which helps, using this method.https://www.xmodulo.com/add-bookmarks-pdf-document-linux.html

But to do the index retroactively will be a chore for sure.

So, please, go back to your source document and export the TOC and Index properly, and then push an update to DRPG and they will alert us to the revision. Thanks

Will the PDF be updated any time in the future? I noticed the "impetuous" trait is mentioned in character creation but is not located in the traits section. I also own the hardcover rule book and the boxed set. The softcover box set does include the trait while my hardcover rulebook has the same issue as the PDF noted above. In addition, it would be nice to be able to have the rules and mission addendum that are in the box set-- It looks like Luke Crane's online store Burning Wheel is not selling the game anymore too. Hopefully Archaia or whoever will sell the game going forward will provide PDFs for the boxed set.

This pdf is of excellent quality! Although it does lack bookmarks - the page numbers are correct (a rarity among pdf copies) and there is a table of contents on page 3.
I bought this book despite the multiple warnings I saw around the internet and in this comment section. I do own the physical copy, the digital version is just for easier access.
I have to say, I don't know if the publisher has updated the downloadable or if the negative comments are overstating the issues, but I find this digital version of Mouse Guard 2e to be very well-done. The images do have some slight artifacting, but they are still very legible.
The images and overall quality of the book is excellent! Nearly as good as the original book!

I own the box set and purchased this for convenience and to save wear and tear on the book. I must say the quality of the scanned images is horrible. The text in images is unreadable. Some pages appear to just be scans and not actual text. For example page 4, and page 6. As noted by others there are no table of contents or bookmarks in this PDF, reducing usability. Disappointing.

Crappy file resolution for such a pricey pdf. This has been an issue for awhile now and it still isn't fixed. No comments or answers from the publisher....nice...

some very cool ideas (conflicts conditions and the base system) BUT
-uselessness complexity about roleplaying their character for the players (fate point, persona point, goal, instincts, beliefs, wise, check points) too many options which hinder the players. Fate system is a lot better about this part.
-far too many skills (more than 25 !), al ot are useless
-no watermarked pdf no Playercharacter sheet include
i think i will use some ideas but the system is not usable in his state...

Nope. 320 pages is just the core book. NRNM is not available as a PDF as far as I know.

So I own the 2nd edition box set of this RPG and was considering getting the PDF as well in the hope that it would contain corrections for some of the important errors in the manual, particularly updated examples. The examples in the printed materials are from the 1st edition and do not reflect important changes made in the 2nd edition such as the handling of traits. Can anyone comment as to whether this PDF was fixed before publication. The November 23, 2015 date for File Last Updated does not inspired confidence. Thanks!

I was very excited to start learning this game. I bought the hardcover online and came to Drivethru to buy the PDF separately. After spending another $20 (which should have been included in the purchase of the book) I found it lacking bookmarks, making it practically unusable at the table. Hopefully the bookmark situation can be fixed soon. I canceled my hard copy purchase as a result, and will hold off on pursuing this game further until the bookmark situation can be resolved.

You know you can edit PDFs and add your own bookmarks in? Foxit reader will let you do that. I'm not saying it's ideal, but I've done it many times myself, it's not that bad. I often rearrange bookmarks to suite my tastes.

I've downloaded the file and attempted to open it, but there is a brief message saying "The file is damaged, but is being repaired", followed by a textbox saying "There was an error opening this document. The root object is missing or invalid". I'm working to try and fix it, but does anyone have any advice?

It was just an easily fixable file error - should have just gone to the FAQ and written to help before complaining here. Thanks DTRPG staff!

Is there am "Experience Point" system that allows the characters to learn and get stronger over time? Or are they static like in Fighting Fantasy and Traveller?

There is an experience system although it isn't a flat XP to next level system.

Every skill (and attribute) has bubbles that you track to level that skill up. You have to succeed and fail and the higher the skill the more you must succeed and fail to level up. Why do you have to fail too? Because if you aren't failing you probably aren't pushing yourself very hard and you aren't learning from your mistakes. This encourages you to tackle bigger challenges when you are ranked highly in a skill and on top of that it makes failure rewarding in its own way so that even a bad roll of the dice isn't a useless result.

Does this have the cards in PDF to be able to print at home?

It does not although honestly all the cards do is have the word you have to keep in mind and some artwork. You can easily make your own and print them out or just scribble on some index cards and they work more than well enough. It is a shame that they didn't let us print out our own cards though.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
