JUDGE DREDD // GHOST TOWN

Mega-City One, 2137 AD. Home to 50 million citizens, and still recovering from the decimation of the Chaos Bug, this urban hell is situated along the east coast of postapocalyptic North America, where crime is rampant, poverty is rife, and unemployment near universal. Tensions run a constant knife-edge and only the zero-tolerance Judges — empowered to dispense instant justice — can stop total anarchy. Toughest of them all is JUDGE DREDD — he is the Law! Attacks on the city have left Justice Department’s manpower resources severely limited, and so Dredd is trialling a ranger programme...

FUTURE SHOCKS // RE-INCARN-8

Out in the vast reaches of the universe, there are an infinite number of stories waiting to be told. These cautionary tales pass from traveller to traveller in the spaceports and around campfires on distant planets, acquiring the status of legend, their shocking ends a salutory lesson in hubris. From chronicles of the lowliest swamp denizens in backwater quadrants to the rise and fall of rulers of entire star systems, anything is possible in these twisted trips into the galaxy’s dark side. Abandon your preconceptions, expect the unexpected, and take a journey beyond the edges of the imagination…

DREAMS OF DEADWORLD // DEATH

Deadworld, a planet similar to Earth in another dimension. Once, this world was thriving — but then a psychopathic dentist’s son called Sidney was transformed into the creature known as Judge Death, and he determined that since all crime is committed by the living therefore life itself should be eradicated. Creating similarly undead lieutenants to aid him in his task, they set about massacring an entire planet, purging it of every breathing thing. Now, they stand on the bones of a global graveyard, ruminating on past deeds and wondering where they can take their murderous mission next...

THE ALIENIST // THE HAUNTING OF HEX HOUSE

England, 1908. Madelyn Vespertine, an Edwardian woman of indeterminate age and origin, turns up — often unbidden — to deal with strange events of an apparently occult nature. The era is awash with all manner of interest in spiritual matters — seances, hauntings, faerie sightings, and more — and Madelyn has the means and technology to investigate them. There is more to her than meets the eye, however, and she uses her companion Sebastian Wetherall — actually an actor called Reginald Briggs — to divert attention away from her otherworldly powers. Now, they fight a malign entity...

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
