Stars Cry

The humanity has entered a new stage of development. The future is now. We’ve become a space-faring civilization, and meeting extraterrestrial beings is rather a normal thing. What lies ahead? Where will new paths lead us? What is hidden out there in the abyssal space? Are the domestic feuds really important on the verge of the future?

The Earth. Future.

Many years have passed since we’ve contacted the extraterrestrial intelligence. It turned out that there was a whole world around us, full of its own rules, principles and traditions. A lot of different races and planets, united in one huge community controlled by a council called “Pantheon”. Just as we expected, we’ve been watched for centuries. We’ve been helped, protected and sometimes even put aside for painful but needed development stages of civilization to happen. We’ve been accepted to the “Pantheon” and given the equal rights.

Humans are not alone in the universe, and who knows how many species and inhabited planets are there. But one thing we know for sure – our membership in the “Pantheon” gave us access to new technologies, information and longevity. The infrastructure of our cities began to develop and modify as well. Also, business and politic began to develop too, creating colossuses such as “Mill Corp”, “Task Cybertronic”, “Space Architect” and “Nano Tech” etc. that could compete with corporations of other planets.

All of this was difficult to get used to, but we managed to do it. It didn’t happen overnight, but we succeeded in taking our place in this huge galaxy of civilizations. But, as it was expected, not everybody was glad to see us.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
