The Nightmare Flight

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The Nightmare Flight takes place in the autumn of 1928, as the investigators board an airship on a Transatlantic voyage from Lakehurst, New Jersey to Friedrichshafen in Germany.

The journey descends into a nightmare when a smuggled Anishinaabe relic begins to chip away at the passengers’ sanity and pits them against one another. Will the investigators make it across the ocean, or will they succumb to delusions and perish high in the skies?

This is a Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition oneshot scenario suitable for three to five players and designed to fit a broad range of play styles. It focuses on investigation and mystery, but offers ample opportunities to use brute force if the players prefer a more direct approach.

The product contains:

  • 26 page carefully crafted scenario
  • A detailed map of the airship and six handouts
  • Hints and tips for running the scenario

How hard would it be to have the flight in reverse
Rather usa to Germany
But Germany to USA
This would be a perfect way for my team to get home after Berlin the wicked city

Hi, I believe I may have already answered your question on Twitter, but for the benefit of others, will repeat it here.

It is possible to switch the route around, but it will require some moderate ‘surgery’ of the backstory (will need to assume the artefact is being returned to the US, not smuggled to Europe), one of the main NPCs (he would need to discover and study the relic somewhere in Germany), and, most painfully, tweak some of the handouts. But it is definitely doable with a bit of upfront preparation. Enjoy running the scenario!

I just finished reading the scenario and it looks like a ton of fun. A great one to run on Foundry VTT. The pdf is well laid out and the graphics and images are also well done.

We just played this scenario.
It was awesome! Incredible scenario. Very well made, spooky and terrifying.
We've played more one-shots than I can count and are in the progress of playing Masks as well (tied this into a travel in between locations). This is without a doubt in my top 3 so far.

Hi everyone. I am very please with how this scenario turned out, but, as with everything, I am sure there is room for improvement. I would appreciate any comments or suggestions you may have once you had a chance to read or play through the scenario. And I will aim to keep updating the content as I receive your feedback. Thanks!

The scenario has been updated on 14 December:

- EPUB version of the scenario has been added to improve document accessibility
- An additional .pdf has been added to include only the Handouts from the scenario
- Minor tweaks to the scenario .pdf to correct several typos

Please note that at the moment I am seeing to .pdf files for the main scenario - v1 and v2. Please download v2 version, which has the typos corrected. Trying to sort out the issue of both files currently appearing as a download option.

The scenario has been updated again on 3 January 2022:

- Editing and proofreading of the scenario by Keith Mageau (Modoc), Swamp Fox Publishing Services
- Updated .EPUB version to fully align with the main text

The underlying scenario remains unchanged, but its flow has benefited tremendously from professional proofreading and editing. I hope you enjoy it.

If you have already purchased the scenario, please consider downloading the revised version for your future use.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
