The World Below Ashcan Edition
by Tobias K. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 06/27/2023 06:03:56

This ashcan delivers everything you need to run a game of the World Below. I personally really like the way it is written, very evocative and sprawling with ideas, that can blossom into whole adventures. The broshure tells, on which of the presented parts to expect further mechanics (like the base and society building phase of the Kalm or Kaos magic). There are so many neat details like pet rocks or very fun counter magic abilities. This game will bring some fresh air into old tunnels.

The World Below Ashcan Edition

A creepy, funny dungeon-crawler focused on exploration and weird magic. The core concept - society driven into caves and mutated by Kaos magic - is a lot of fun and lends itself well to dark comedy. The setting offers new twists on classic fantasy Ancestries, giving distinct cultures to different races without making them beholden to those cultures. And the combination of Dialectic (innate powers) and Calling (profession) choices gives players freedom to experiment with their own builds. Pick this up if you're looking for a good DnD/PF alternative!

The World Below Ashcan Edition

As someone who swore off Onyx Path for several years, this is the product that's brought me back into possibly supporting their non wod products again.

A grim subterranean setting that seems like a mix of Hollow Knight and Neil Gaimen's Neverwhere, draws one in and grabs tight.   The World Below offers an interesting take on fantasy, tossing aside the happy lands of Hobbits and bringing in a healthy dose of Grim and the World of Darkness.

Characters have ample options to chose from for creation, with this Ashcan edition giving just enough hints at what will be available for full release.I can see ample opportunities to add gallows humor to the setting and its running, but I admit at times the nomenclature leans too far into camp and lame wordplay jokes.

I'm hoping the horrible art shownon the onyx path blog updates are just placeholders and not indicative of the art in the final product as it gives a huge mork borg ripoff feel and really cheapens the feel of this setting.

So, for the ashcan I give a 80% as it's almost too good. The final edition would need more and better art to earn this mark, with clear depictions of the various kins as onyx path has a horrible history for vagueness in showing the various splats (ugh dystopia rising, changeling seemingly, etc).

Mileage can and will vary, but this is my opinion on this product from a publisher that I find too happy to water down dark content to make it less controversial, which if they do to this will ruin its entire feeling

A fascinating preview for an upcoming game line, ideal for one-shots. Also a fantastic promo for what OPP's upcoming Storypath Ultra rules will look like. Definitely worth the prices, even if you don't have as much of an interest in the game itself but you want to see more of Storypath Ultra to incorporate into a ruleshack you're doing for your existing Storypath games, with things like weapon tags.

What an amazing player's guide! I feel like all Player's Guide should focus their energy on give the players more options and this one goes above and beyond in doing so! Like,ok Scion is about playing heroes of legends, but saints prophets and sorcerers are heroes of legend too! an nwo they get to play! The elegance of the storypath system is in full display here,it's a must but for any Scion fan. and if you aren't one,do try it,you just might fall in love with the game.

The World Below Ashcan Edition

The World Below Ashcan Edition is a extremely good addition to my favorite game company ever growing list of great games. I knew i was going to like The World Below, but i didn't exepct to like it quite as much. You see, i tend to like games with several settings instead of just one. But this game's one setting is quite well developed and very fun! And i'm only talking the Ashcan edition, which show us only a part of it. The types of characters you can play are familiar enought to make me feel happy, and new enought to make me curious The monsters are creepy! VERY creepy! Overall a Great romp over a new world

Exalted: Essence
by Jason M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 06/22/2023 06:53:15

Greetings Exalted Team and Onyx Path,

When Exalted first launched I fell in love with the setting. 1st edition was amazing! I fell out of Exalted in 2nd edition and while I own the 3e book and enjoy it, it is a lot. Enter Exalted Essence! I have spent the time since I purhcased this book devouring it. Having Access to all the Exalt types, is a huge step in the right direction. It gives the players so much breadth an depth of play in the game and their circles. I enjoy the the changes to Anima, and Essence, just making things more simple and straight forward is also a welcome change. Stepping away from the metaphsyics of 2nd edition and the metaplot are great choices as well. "Let the players create the meta in their games just give them the tools" is excatly what you have done with Essence.

Mechanically I have been enjoying the wide interprative method of applying the Attributes and Abilities to rolls and situations. The combat systems both physical and social seem to go with the less is more approach when it comes to things like timing in turns and how to apply the dice mods. While like Ex3 there are several steps, I think the system does a good job breaking these down in an orderly manner. The book is laid out in a good way and flows well from World Info to Exalts to Character Creation, and the hyperlinks in the PDF, and the page refernces in various places throuout are extremly helpful! I love the Stunt and Milestones as well.

The only problem I have with the book is the exclusion of Exalted weapons like Daiklaives and such in the equipment section. These weapons are refernced in other places like Wonders, and as weapons of antagonists, but no where in the equipment for players. Sure I can slap the Artifact tag on anything and describe it, or I can go to Ex3 and find them but it would have been nice to have at least descriptions of them mentioned.

Over all, this is a fantastic book. I have even created a Play-by-Post discord to start running it for a group I currently run multiple WoD games for but whom do not have time to add a physical game to thier schedules. Thank you for all the hard work in getting this book out to us! I am super excited to get back into the world of Exalted!

P.S. Please forgive any typos. I am typing on a keyboard that is old and sometimes does not register button presses well.

Good step in the right direction, but still way to clunky and rules heavy for my taste.

This is so much fun! If you've been waiting to play a particular type of exalted or just want a simpler more accessible system give this a try. (I particularly like how they handle the Great Curse here.)

very good but my god does the setting feel like it's far too much and that far too much is said, also the orpheus appendix is both unnecessary and muddles things up immensely.

on the whole a useful supplement for extra rules and details though the claims of whats included in the main book and whats actually there is slightly disingenuous, nevertheless very good
