Cleaning Up The Cult
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild
by Bob V. G. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 03/11/2023 20:14:00

Cleaning Up the Cult (14 pages at Dungeon Masters Guild) is a fun fantasy adventure for Fifth Edition which takes place along The Sword Coast. This adventure is for 15th level characters, but I transformed it to a level two adventure . To create my solo engine, I changed four lines in Hoard of the Dragon Queen. I used my six second level characters.

So, my characters wanted to do some sightseeing and pick up some souvenirs by following the path the heroes of the land took when they were hunting for dragons. They travelled by cart from Waterdeep. On the seventh day they did have to battle lizardfolk. On the evening of the 10th day, they reached the Carnath Roadhouse. On the 12th day they reached a settlement which used to be a lizardfolk village. At the beach they fought bullywugs. Next, they were in a boat when it was attacked by a crocodile. The druid Luna was knocked into the water. She changed into a fish and was able to escape the croc.

When they reached Castle Naerytar, they could see two human guards up above the gate. The PCs destroyed the gate and were then in combat with four guards. In the Outer Ward they had to deal with a giant lizard and a lizardfolk. In the Inner Ward they fought an Ambush Drake. They continued to explore and killed several dragonclaws. In the kitchen, they rescued ten commoners. They immediately took them back to the Roadhouse and sold the books they had found. They rested at the Roadhouse on the 13th day, but that evening six kobolds stole some chickens from the chicken coop. The PCs killed the kobolds. On the 14th day they continued to explore Naerytar. In the Great Hall they killed a Dragonwing and found the treasure room. They packed up the loot from this room and twelve expensive bottles of wine from the storage area. They headed back to the Roadhouse, sold their wine, and had a long party. Give this a try!

For the last few days, I have soloed my way through a D&D Adventurers League adventure for Spelljammer – SJ-DC-ARQ-01 (29 pages, free at Dungeon Masters Guild). Instead of Fifth Edition, I used Just A Game – Playtest Packet (37 pages, free at DriveThruRPG). I created six first level characters. So, the adventure started with the PCs playing a VR online virtual game when suddenly they were all sucked into the game. Five of the PCs found themselves in a village inn and there they talked to Grannek the quest giver. They followed him to a wounded constable and healed him. Next, they followed the trail to an ancient chamber. Here they found a gray ooze (the other PC) and five magic stones. They used these stones to activate a magic circle. It teleported them to the top of a three story building.

Here they found two Xvarts. One was a warlock and one was an apprentice. They were trying to extract information from an autognome (spy) at the top edge of the building. The PCs killed the two Xvarts and found a red crystal and a green crystal. The autognome accompanied them and it was always giving them advice (sometimes the advice was obvious). On the third floor they explored four rooms and encountered the cook. Auto informed them that this was a bad guy and a werewolf. The PCs killed him using the crystals as weapons. On the second floor they explored six rooms and killed seven Xvarts. This floor also had the vault and Auto told them how to get into it. On the first floor they explored four rooms. One of these rooms was the drawbridge control room (there is an empty moat that surrounds the building). In the basement (dungeon) they found seven crew members from the squid ship that they had seen from the top of the building. They freed the crew and then exited the building. They had to kill three more Xvarts to get to the squid ship. It was now time to enjoy the feeling of flying through space. For treasure, they did find a total of 275 gold pieces, a Pearl of Power, a silver dagger, and a pistol with four bullets.

Give this fun adventure a try!

Note – This Playtest is not 100% complete. So, I would not recommend it for beginners. It uses the Powered by the Apocalypse game system. This RPG has great potential and it is loaded with great ideas.

DDAL05-02 The Black Road (5e)

Recently, I soloed my way through Adventurers League The Black Road (44 pages, for D&D Fifth Edition, PC levels 1 to 4). The RPG system that I used to play it was ACRHACK (3 pages, FREE/PAY WHAT YOU WANT at DriveThruRPG).

ACRHACK is a hack of D&D Fifth Edition. I used the Mythic Game Master Emulator as the solo engine and I did refer to the Players Handbook a few times. I started it with seven level one PCs. They picked up their quest in a large tent. They were to be guards for a caravan going through the desert. The first caravan encounter was with goblins who did surprise the PCs. Six of the seven PCs were wounded. The goblins were killed along with a wagon driver. The wizard PC was promoted to wagon driver. His wagon contained the statue which needed to get to Parnast. Next was the sandstorm which killed two drivers. The two camels pulling the wizard’s wagon freaked out and they charged off into the desert pulling the wagon with them. This wagon was then separated from the rest of the caravan. Time passed for the wizard. He got sleepy and fell asleep.

The rest of the caravan encountered a wall with a toll. The PCs made sure that Azam the NPC paid for it. Later they encountered a blood hawk that was carrying a message. The ranger wounded it, but it flew off with the message (the message was not for them). The ranger also scared off a sneaky goblin which was following them. The PCs also had to deal with a trap. They made their saving throws, but they still took damage. They did kill the two bugbears who were responsible. So, the six PCs reached the temple destination at Parnast. Lena the fighter (see the attached image – the artist is Daniel Dociu) was at 25% health and the cleric was at 15% health. The PCs were about to deliver the bad news that the statue was lost in the sandstorm. However, an excited priest from down the street started shouting. The wizard appears, asleep in his wagon. It is being pulled by a giant scarab beetle. The wizard wakes up, the statue is unloaded, the beetle is freed from the wagon, and the giant beetle heads back into the dessert. Quest complete! Gold pieces are collected. Give this fun adventure a try!

In May 2021, I soloed my way through The Chamber of Red Fang, a fun Index Card RPG fantasy adventure (free at DriveThruRPG). The RPG system I used was Tales of the Magical West. I am using the Solo Adventurer’s Toolbox as the solo engine. – So, the adventuring party is trying to escape from the country where they are now outlaws (they used unregistered magic and stole horses). They are intercepted by two bounty hunters. The bounty hunters are killed and looted. They continue their travels and the road turns into a trail (new country). This trail eventually comes to an ancient home of the dwarves. They explore it and discover a series of rooms down beneath the ruins. A Plague Willow comes to life, but Melissa heals it with a healing spell ( a cost of 11 points of mana with a critical success). They make some saving throws to get past the sigil, find a secret passage, and run into three darklings. Soon after defeating them, the characters run into the Big Bad. Dan becomes charmed and attacks Blade. Blade goes down (hit points at minus one) and the Big Bad is killed. Healing spells are cast and a cursed magic sword is found. It needs to be destroyed, but how? - -This free adventure is 11 pages long, has one map, 4 stat blocks, and four rooms. I used The Solo Adventurer's Toolbox (Bimler) to make the dungeon bigger.

Kunos: High Fantasy Horror RPG Quickstart
Publisher: Menagerie Press

Date Added: 02/20/2023 23:45:14

Kunos: High Fantasy Horror RPG Quickstart is 25 pages, and it includes a two page adventure. You do need Savage Worlds RPG (this is a good investment) to play it. To solo this, I used the Solo Adventure Resource : The Dungeon Oracle (Bimler). I did use the six PC characters that are included in this quickstart.

The adventure started with the PCs travelling through Hayden’s Field. The farmers complained that some of their hogs had been taken by a group of bandits. The PCs followed the trail to a crypt. In the first room they encountered four lizardmen (males). The four did not want to fight (they were being forced to) and this was obvious. Yalena convinced them to stop fighting. The lizardmen exited the dungeon. In the second room they found the Boss and killed him.

In the third room, Grim triggered a magic trap and his fighting skill was reduced for 18 hours. In the fourth room they found tools. Next, they had to deal with a locked door. Yalena took care of it. In room five, they found stolen personal items. One of the items was a spellbook. Room six was bandits. Both sides took a lot of damage and the PC Kaj (the healer) died. At this point, Yalena convinced the bandits to surrender. They did. The bandits were rounded up and taken to the nearest town. They were handed in to the local authorities. The PCs sold their loot, got healed, and got a room for the night.

The next day the PCs talked about some of the comments made by the bandits the day before. The PCs decide to go back to the crypt. When they got there, the lizardmen were waiting for them. The lizardmen explained that their females were still in the dungeon and that they could hear a monster down there. So, the PCs went back in and killed The Glutton. They also found two hogs and three of the female lizardmen (one had been eaten). Give this a try!

Date Added: 02/17/2023 03:48:39

Recently, I soloed my way through Elden Dungeon (26 pages). It is a dungeon crawler game that uses six-sided dice. I picked the dwarf character. His quest was to find a magical item. He managed to get all the way down to the fifth level of the dungeon. He killed nine monsters, but a Superior Genie killed him.

So, for my second attempt, I used Elden Dungeon to create my dungeon. I used the Goblin Quest rules and created ten goblins. The quest was to get down to level six and return to the surface. They killed two monsters and found 175 gold pieces. A trap killed one goblin. One goblin drowned while trying to swim across an underground river. One goblin had a fling with a succubus. He was never heard from again. So seven goblins did complete the quest.

Give this dungeon crawler a try!

DecKarnage! Quickstart

Date Added: 02/14/2023 14:27:13

For the last few days, I have soloed my way through DecKarnage! Quickstart (32 pages). The campaign location is the space that someone calls Skrap, a meeting point between dream lands, fairytales, stories, ideas and everything human imagination can generate. I changed four lines in True 20 Revised Edition to make my solo engine. For the adventure, I used DMDave’s Mimic Museum. I created five first level characters. So, the adventure started with the PCs enjoying their day off. They avoided the damaged areas of the city and went to the Natural History Museum. Outside of it, they ran into Abarat the director of the museum and an angry mob. Abarat offered them a cash reward if they could fix the problems the museum was having. The PCs managed to calm the crowd, but the PC John did take a punch to the face.

In the library, the PCs had Abarat unlock a glass case/bookshelf. John did find the first mimic and dodged its first attack. The PCs killed it, but they all did take damage. The PC, Doman the healer, healed John. In the ancient skeletons room, they encountered a minotaur skeleton mimic. The PC, Holly the witch, put it asleep. Each PC packed up some of the minotaur bones to take with them. In the historical armory, Abarat would not assist with the locked glass case and left the building. The PC Peter, the thief, had a bad roll and damaged the glass case. This would not be the last time. The PCs continued to poke objects with a staff. In Copperware Hall, they encountered another mimic. Yes, they took more damage. The PC Molly failed with her psychic blast attack. Yes, they killed it. They completely explored all of the rooms in the museum on the first and second floor.

It was in the basement that they discovered a thief with a sack. Peter recognized the guy right away. It was the most famous thief in the region. They went back upstairs. Peter used the computer system to lock up the building before they exited. He was trying to lock the other thief in the building, but somehow this guy escaped. The PCs then got their reward. The last thing that they did was to bury the minotaur bones in several locations in and around the city. Give this RPG a try!

Date Added: 02/10/2023 03:14:32

Recently I soloed my way through DraftCrawl (2 pages at DriveThruRPG for free/pay what you want), dungeon crawling game. The RPG system I used to play it was Goblin Quest (132 pages, same place). I used the FlexTale Solo Adventuring Toolkit (613 pages) to solo the adventure, make the adventure longer, and make the dungeon more interesting. I created ten PC goblins because they have two hit points each and the whole point of this is to watch them die. There are no rules for experience and making levels. In room one, they killed one leshy (mushroom man) and one leshy ran away. In room two, they killed one leshy and the other three retreated back down into the dungeon area when they heard the sound of an alarm bell. In room three, they found a healing potion and a scroll of summon beasts. In room four, they found a trapped door which did kill one of the goblins. The alchemist goblin turned the healing potion to acid. It was then used to weaken the lock so they could get that door open.

They found a large leshy in room five. Once again, the alchemist goblin turned the last healing potion to acid. It hit the leshy and dissolved it into a pile of goo. Room six was empty and it must be noted that several goblins had been killed in the various fights. In room seven, they saw four leshies. The goblins decided they would rather eat then fight that many opponents. They exited the dungeon and found a farmhouse. The goblin alchemist read the scroll. One of the spirit beasts killed him. The other spirit beast did scare the occupants out of the farmhouse. They raided it for food and headed to the woods for a picnic. They enjoyed their meal and started telling exaggerated tales of their adventure so far. Unfortunately, a group of human bandits found them. The goblins ran away. Some were killed, but three did survive. Maybe you will have better luck. Give this RPG a try!

Debutantes & Dagon

Date Added: 02/07/2023 04:30:53

Recently, I soloed my way through Debutantes & Dagon (27 pages) an adventure for Regency Cthulhu (England 1820). The RPG system that I used to play it was One-Sot RPG (same place). I used The Solo Investigator’s Handbook (Bimler) as the solo engine. The adventure started with the five PCs picking up their mission from their contact (government official). They then travelled to their destination and found the five zombies marching in a circuitous fashion. The PCs killed the zombies, but Sarah did take damage from a bite. The PCs then searched the bodies and found a feminine silver ring with a small ruby attached to a leather cord. Rachel put the ring on. That night Sarah left the bed. Her boyfriend Ackley (PC) covered her with a coat as she walked out of the building in a trance. He followed her to a dirty old inn at the outskirts of the city. He was careful and was not noticed. The inn was guarded by two human guards. He knew that he would need the team for the rescue, so he went back to his bed. When Rachel the PC prepared for bedtime, she kissed her pet dove. When she woke up, the dove was gone from its cage.

At breakfast, the remaining four PCs ate their tea and crumpets and discussed the missing bird and the old inn. They spoke to their contact and did get some soldiers to accompany them. When they arrived at the inn, one soldier was instructed to help the PCs with combat, the others were to capture people trying to escape the inn. The attacking force killed the two guards and entered the inn. In the common room, they killed five zombies, but the soldier took bite damage. Ackley then heard Sarah downstairs pleading for help. When he walked down the stairs, the steps that were illusionary did not hold his weight and he fell down into a small room filled with Sarah the zombie and another zombie. Ackley did take some bite damage. He had trouble with his longsword in this small room. He did kill his two opponents and grieved the death of this girlfriend.

At this point, the witch attempted to escape but she was caught outside by the soldiers. Upstairs the PCs were attacked by a blacksmith zombie and a regular zombie. They both had come through an illusionary wall. The PCs killed them. So, they had completed their mission. At dusk they gagged and tied up the witch so that she could not use or touch her hands. They put the silver ring on her hand and left the room. The next morning they looked into the room. The witch was gone and the ring was on the floor where she had been. Give this adventure a try!

Heroes & Heels QuickStart
Publisher: Cheeze-Puff Productions
by Bob V. G. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 02/02/2023 17:38:07

During the last few days I have soloed my way through a fun adventure that is included in Heroes & Heels Quick-Start (free at DriveThruRPG, 76 pages). This game is a 5e compatible role playing game set in a generic super-heroic setting. To play it, you will need the Fifth Edition D&D Player’s Handbook. To solo it, I used a yes/no/maybe oracle. I did use the five fourth level characters that are included in this Quick-Start.

The first scene started with someone needing to be rescued. The intelligent beasts were killed, but all of my characters were damaged. They were able to medically help the person they rescued. After this, they rested for an hour and investigated an incident where a “Beast Kid” had been beaten up by the local community. The PCs quickly decided that he was innocent. They talked to the tribal authorities and were given a lead to the next location.

So, things got nasty at the warehouse. The PCs managed to kill the alien along with two of his drones. Three PCs went down during this. At this point, Low Orbit used his smoke grenade. It enabled the two functional PCs to carry out two of the unconscious PCs. They managed to stop the bleeding and then used their gunfire to pin down the two drones in the warehouse. Eventually, the police showed up. The police killed the last two drones and found evidence that the Beast Kid was indeed, innocent. The unconscious PC On-Dot, who had been left in the warehouse, died of blood loss. So, this was kind of a mess (I will blame the dice). Maybe you will have better luck. Give this a try!

Toy World

Toy World (32 pages) is an exciting adventure where the players roleplay children’s toys. It was designed for the RPG system Adventurers! (12 pages) which I did use. To create my solo engine, I changed four lines in Savage Worlds Deluxe. I used six first level player characters (Raggedy Andy, Snake Eyes, Woofles, Robot, Teddy Bear, and Quackie).

The adventures started with the PCs in a city. One large wall on a building was showing commercials. At this point, the PCs heard a boy’s voice which told them, “Your quest is to kill three monsters.” In the city they were attacked by Storm Shadow and later Serpentor. Snake Eyes was damaged. After experiencing a lifting sensation, they found themselves in a swamp. Andy wanted to make a healing potion, so he searched for and found an Ivory Tree. He used its sap to make the healing potion. They then fought and defeated The Creature From the Black Lagoon.

The next location they were dropped into was the mountains. They saw the turrets on the castle and smelled a chicken soup smell coming from them. Because the drawbridge was up, Quackie had to fly over to the courtyard and lower the drawbridge for them. They entered the keep, killed Dracula, and then got into a large horse drawn carriage. The driver was Ken. They gave Ken instructions to drive them to the nearest town. On the road, in the woods, the horses stopped and looked distressed. They all then heard a woman’s scream from the woods. It was Barbie (dressed as Red Riding Hood) being chased by a werewolf (wearing tidy whities). The PCs killed the werewolf and Snake Eyes went down because of damage. He was put into the carriage. In the town, Andy asks for a healing oil ingredient. He tracks down Murphy and acquires the oil. Andy creates the healing ointment and brings Snake Eyes back to life.

At this point, the PCs are dropped into a meadow with ponies with rainbow colors. This time they hear a woman’s voice, “Put your brother’s toys back in his room. We don ‘t want him getting mad.”

Give this a try!

We don ‘t want him getting mad.” Give this RPG system a try!
