Six Spells: Mythos
Publisher: Skirmisher Publishing
by Jonathan M. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 05/09/2021 22:50:43

This little book is exactly what it claims to be: six spells inspired by the C'thulu mythos. It works great in that setting or in any other dealing with ancient evils and their cults.

Simple 5E Microsoft Word Template & Beginner's Guide
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild

This is an excellent resource for content creators. It provides highlight-and-click text formatting as well as copy-and-paste formatting for elements like sidebars and stat blocks. Clear installation instructions and plenty of examples make this template easy to apply to an already-published project or get started on a new one. The free WotC template is suitable if you're strapped for cash and just getting started but invest in this template as soon as you can afford it.

This short supplement consists of two parts. The first part explains what a spontaneously generated monster is and where/why they occur. The second part provides several examples. This can be an excellent resource for GMs looking to surprise their players.

Artifacts of the Wastelands
Publisher: Skirmisher Publishing
by Jonathan M. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/18/2019 14:11:23

Artifacts of the Wastelands offers GMs a grab-bag of oddities adventurers might find.

"Cloaks" serves as a catch-all for different kinds of outwear including stealth/camoflauge gear and environmental protection.

"Virtual Matter Projecters" are essentially "hard" holograms. Instead of simply creating a visual and/or auditory sensation, virtual matter is solid and can be interacted with just like any other object. Glove-like projectors create simple tools while more advanced projectors can create self-contained environments.

"Anti-Technology Weapons" are specifically designed to defeat other hi-tech toys and robots.

"Formulae" is easily the most adaptable section of the book. Essentially, they are a collection of "recipes" combining pre- and post-apocalypse technologies. Experimentation is encouraged.

Biology for Fantasy Settings
Publisher: Skirmisher Publishing
by Jonathan M. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 09/20/2018 13:32:49

This is a must-have for world builders. It gives a broad but thorough look at how creatures can be adopted or survive in a multitude of settings and environments. Even if you're using an established setting, the information provided here can help you provide a large dose of the unexpected and do so with a better explanation than "Because I said so." Even in a fantasy setting, suspension of disbelief only goes so far. This book helps get more mileage out of it, largely by not requiring it in the first place.

Mutant Plant Monsters
Publisher: Skirmisher Publishing
by Jonathan M. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 09/20/2018 12:46:07

While aimed at post-apocalyptic settings, Mutant Plant Monsters can be used anywhere you need a bizarre plant: a mutation or genetically engineered trait in a science fiction setting might be a naturally occuring feature in a fantasy setting.

The book opens with a brief examination of the strengths and weaknesses of planets, most of which are not thought of immediately but are obvious when pointed out. A few examples of mutant plants are provided followed by almost 80 mutations/traits specific to plants.

This product goes off the beaten path when it comes to golems. Any GM looking to add some color or throw a curve ball at their players will find a few ideas in here. Players interested in building their own golems will also get some fresh ideas.

Left-Hand Path
Publisher: Onyx Path Publishing
by Jonathan M. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/25/2013 19:29:10

The book opens with an explanation of what gets a Mage labeled as Left-Handed and also offers some new tricks for Apostates.

The second section details the Mad (those whose Wisdom drops to 0) and the effect they have on the Fallen World as well as rules for creating and running such characters.

The third section looks at the Scelesti, the Abyss, and Mages who follow even darker creatures. I felt this section was the weakest but not a waste of space.

My biggest draw to this book was the new information on the Tremere (the fourth and final section) and this book delivers. The Legacy gets an expanded origin story and its organization gets broken down and explained.

My biggest complaint was that the book was so short. The information about Apostates, while good, didn't feel like it belonged with the rest of the material. The Tremere were given enough depth to require their own Order book but everything was so compacted I felt like I was reading the Introduction to a much larger book. The same can be said for the Scelesti (perhaps another Night Horrors: the Unbidden needs to be written to cover that aspect).

Night Horrors: Count F****** Dracula
Publisher: White Wolf
by Jonathan M. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 07/01/2011 01:07:54

When I first read the title for this wonderful little piece, I thought it was a serious write-up for the long-missing progenitor of the Ordo Dracul. I am not at all sorry to say that I am still waiting for that write-up after taking five minutes to read through this four page dossier.

The bulk of the file is written similar to the short stories that begin and end White Wolf's other World of Darkness books. The viewpoint switches between the straightforward, no-nonsense perspective of Dracula himself and the vulgarity-filled exclamations of his "partner". The entire story had me in tears from laughter while at the same time giving an excellent feel for how the character should be presented at the gaming table.

To speak of the "mechanical" usefulness of the file, it comes with a complete write-up, including a new Fighting Style Merit (which is written in not-as-harsh language as the opening story).

Perhaps the best part of this whole package is you can drop hints to "Dracula" throughout your game and watch your Vampire players get really excited (or really, really scared) before revealing all the talk to be this big fellow and just watch the reaction. Portrayed properly, Count F** Dracula may become one of the most memorable characters in any story he appears.
