M20 Lore of the Traditions
Publisher: Onyx Path Publishing
by Alexandre [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 10/22/2023 20:48:34

If you want a book about how and why Traditions exist as "traditions" from the various cultures and have a values both as themselves and as a inspiration for fictionnal interpretation in the game lore, this book is not for you. But if you want a book that reinterpret the various cultures throught the lenses of the very progressive american left, go ahead, cultural assimilation is just a clic away.

M20 The Operative's Dossier
Publisher: Onyx Path Publishing
by Alexandre S. [Verified Purchaser]

This book seems to have been writent with a "less is more" approach, as in less information is more inspiration. The problem is the "less" part. Page count ? Lack of inspiration ? Weak direction ? The fact is that this book never give details on any of the many subjects. Asking for Storyteller to fill in the holes by not giving information is a bad way to encourage inspiration, especialy when compared to other WoD sourcebooks, old and new.

M20 The Rich Bastard’s Guide to Magick
Publisher: Onyx Path Publishing
by Alexandre S. [Verified Purchaser]

An Onyx Path product that doesn't feel like : "you're evil if you don't think like us", it's refreshing ! Seriously, the writers have made some research on spiritaul practice and their relation to wealth and the conception of money. They gave good advice on running a game of "rich bastards". Some new rotes and magical items.

Buy to encourage good buisness practice.

M20 Technocracy Reloaded
Publisher: Onyx Path Publishing
by Alexandre S. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/03/2021 19:11:40

M20 Technocracy Reloaded have a big identity problem. I understand that this book wants to please the most gameplay style and the most varied interpretations of the Technocracy possible, but this have the side-effet to dilude the focus to a point that this book feels empty. Takes a new player picking this book : can he say was is the Technocracy after reading this book ? I hightly doubt it. A clear focus on what is the Technocracy, with a wealth of option to customize it would have made a better book. Also, for a book about the various options, this book missed a lot of options on previous editions factions and groups. For exemple, the Syndicate's SDP, Revised's Panopticon and the Cult of the Machine are all missing. These omissions, on a product line as M20, open to the various "future fates", is a baffling, especially when the main draw of the book is supposed to be "Technocracy is everything YOU want it to be". On the bright side, there is various interesting lore options, but the lack of focus on these options made the Technocracy less interesting.

M20 Book of the Fallen
Publisher: Onyx Path Publishing
by Alexandre S. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 05/13/2021 12:37:33

I'll start with the posivite : the new nephandic factions and the npcs are a good inspiration for a game of M:tA.

Sadly, the ggod stuff is drowned by various superflous matter. First, SO MANY CONTENT WARNING. Seriously, he author do not trust its readers. Also, with so many content warning, the "dark" stuff seems almost tame, like a bad horror movie. The author is also quite patronising, using a game supplement to publish an essay on his values and his worldview.
Second, the desciption of the Nephandi esclusively based on somekind of "being a predator is the true evil", without any other conception of evil. This make the Nephandi quite one-dimensional. Also, the author really like its onw bizarro cosmology, binding the ST into some kind of "qiloppoth or nothing" approach to nephandic magic. Third, for a book that repeat that this is not a player book, all the in-game options are very "player-friendly". No real "antagonist" options. Now, I know that this is a stapple of the various WOD books, but the fact that the author do not really want to give ST options to how to use nephandi (because : "don't harm your player, be kind, think of your players sensibility" - see first point), the book give a wreid "player's guide to the Fallen" feels. So, the author did not wanted to write the book, make it unreadable, push its own ideology. Go buy the original Book of Madness, or the Book of Madness Revised or Infernalism : path of scream.

The book is bland and uninspiring. Even the revisiting stuff feels like a mandate.

Not a bad book, but it didn't have the "wow" of the old WW books. It is just that desing decisions are so.. visible, and there is not a desire to create a world, but simply to create a game supplement.
