A fantastic addition to my regular 7th Sea game! The new mechanics enhance dramatic scenes seamlessly without adding unnecessary rules or slowing down the fun! I'd love to see a variant for naval chases!

I'm really glad you like Cut to the Chase. In Bloody Misadventures, my naval combat supplement for 7S2, I devoted a sidebar to using these rules for sea chases. I'll reprint the pertinent below, but the short(er) version is: don't do it. :D "Chases at sea are long, tedious affairs. Barring a chase weaving between the scattered islands of an archipelago, high seas pursuits have no Obstacles. Depending on the prevailing winds, a determined pursuit can take hours, even days! Playing out a seafaring chase over several rounds just draws out the inevitable." But Bloody Misadventures has a whole bunch of other things to worry about with sea battles. The chase is the least of your worries.

I've been looking for a resource such as this for a long time! The encounter tables alone are well worth the price. But the rules and details and optional skill uses just add to the value. Good product for a good value.

Tom's Cut to the Chase is a fantastic resource, possible the best I've seen of the Explorer's Society supplements so far. If you're at all intersted in 7th Sea, you should definitely pick it up. Here's some of the best parts about it:

  • Momentum! One of the biggest complaints people have about 2nd Edition is that they don't know how to challenge their Players. Momentum, the use of a "Target" number of Raises that Heroes are working towards over the course of several Rounds is a great way to help mitigate some of those concerns, especially since the Actions of the Heroes can shift Momentum in their favor or against them.
  • There's TONS of examples throughout the text, helping you get a really good idea about how to use each of the pieces
  • Several references for when you're suffering from Creative Fatigue that you can throw at your Players.
  • Examples of now Skills could be used, even ones you might not expect like Perform and Empathy, during a Chase.
